The first meeting of Sustainable Burien will be held at the Burien Library, 14700 6th Ave. S.W., on July 27 at 3 p.m.
The initiators say they are hoping that residents and businesses will want to participate in creating a sustainable local community by sharing their ideas, passions, knowledge and talents.
Sustainable Burien is a member of Sustainable Communities All Over Puget Sound (SCALLOPS) which is connecting neighborhoods who are taking action
locally to make their communities more sustainable.
SCALLOPS was founded in 2007 as a nonprofit network created to advance regional sustainability by providing opportunities for groups to build relationships, share resources, and educate each other on the successes and challenges of pioneering grassroots change at the community level.
In the last eighteen months, SCALLOPS membership has increased from three towns to over fifty groups representing towns and neighborhoods throughout the area.
