See local music for the price of a can of soup and help out the Greenwood Food Bank at a benefit concert later this month.
Owner of the Ballard Sip and Ship, Diana Naramore, will host a concert at the Greenwood location Nov. 21, featuring Seattle indie band Ivan and Alyosha and special guests.
Naramore opened the Ballard store in October 2002 and in March she expanded to Greenwood.
This is not the first time Naramore has sponsored aid for people in need. In 2005, the Ballard Sip and Ship held a donation drive to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, and packaged and shipped items free of charge directly to a relief center in Baker, Louis.
"We love that about our business that we're able to help people," said Naramore.
Members of the band are employees of the Sip and Shio as well as "up and coming artists," said Chris Grafmiller, the manager of the Greenwood Sip and Ship.
"We just want to do something to benefit the community," said Grafmiller, who added it's not just simply publicity for the business.
"It's a combination of how do we get people in our door, show them we are here and an active part of the neighborhood, a community based store," he said.
The event is open to the public and requires a donation of food. Door prizes will be given out from area businesses.
The Greenwood shop is located at 8560 Greenwood Ave. N.
Both Sip and Ship locations offer shipping and mailing services as well as a full-service coffee bar, along with sandwiches and other snacks. The stores also sell gifties and neighborhood paraphernalia.
