I strongly believe that all housing authorities must have strict rules and regulations and they should screen their potential tenants very carefully and all people should be held accountable for their actions, including criminal history.
I am a single mother who just got out of the hospital due to a near death experience. Housing for low-income people is a privilege we have in the United States, not a government obligation and in order to receive assistance, we should not be drug users, violent criminals or sexual offenders. A drug user moved into HUD housing and while he was selling crack on the sidewalk near my unit, I stumbled upon them while exiting my unit and got shot for simply walking to my car.
Isn't it HUD's obligation to provide safe and decent housing for the low income? I say keep all the criminals out.
