Teaming up with the Ballard Food Bank and Ballard Brothers Seafood and Burgers restaurant, the Don Jones Foundation is lending their helping hands at its Fourth Annual Coat and Toy Drive.
First started in 2005, after the late Don Jones who lost his battle with cancer, it was his family's mission to continue his tradition of adopting families in need during the holiday season.
"We started in San Francisco and our goal was to serve a couple of families and we've grown since then serving families outside of the area," said Mollie Overa, daughter of Don Jones. "We're now working in San Francisco, New Jersey and Seattle. The reason we started fundraising was to stay in these communities."
Asking families and individuals to bring a new unwrapped coat (women's, men's or children's) or toy to the Ballard Brothers Seafood and Burgers Restaurant on Sunday, Dec.7 between 12 to 3 p.m. the donations will provide new coats and toys to the families the Ballard Food Bank serves.
"For somebody who feels a new coat or toy is more than they can do we are grateful for any monetary donations, whatever we get adds up and we can get more things for our families that way," said Overa.
Don Jones Foundation will only be accepting new coats and toys during the coat and toy drive but Ballard Food Bank is more than happy in accepting food or other items.
"The holidays are here and people's needs are up and we need to make sure we can serve our neighbors in needs," said Nancy McKinney, executive director of Ballard Food Bank.
