Police Blotter: Bruised and battered
Tue, 01/20/2009
A local man took a trip to King County Jail after he punched his estranged wife so hard that he tore her spleen and bruised her ribs.
Concerned friends called 911 when they went to check on a friend they hadn't heard from in several days and found a suicide note taped to a TV. Officers did a more thorough check of the residence and found several knives on a bed and dried blood on a bathroom wall and on a bath mat. They did not, however, find the missing man.
On 10th SW, a woman noticed a ladder leaning up against a tree in her back yard and discovered that her motion detector lights had been unscrewed just enough to keep them from activating. She is concerned that she is being set up for a burglary. The ladder?which was not hers?has been locked up, and neighbors have been put on alert.
A man came to the Southwest Precinct to report that while he had been locked up in King County Jail, someone had removed $2,500 from his bank account. He denies that anyone had access to his debit card, noting that it was in safekeeping at the jail at the time.
After driving off from South Seattle Community College, a man thought his car sounded odd. It turns out that while it had been parked, someone sawed off its catalytic converter, causing $400 damage.
On Monday the 12th, during the day, enterprising individuals managed to remove all four wheels, damage a bumper, and shatter a window of a car parked in the 6900 block of Delridge Way.
In the 9400 block of 4th SW, an alert homeowner called 911 to report a prowler burglarizing his garage. The suspect dropped the loot before running off. The victim also discovered that his neighbor's truck had been broken into. He also told officers that he did not recognize the vehicle parked in front of his house, which turned out to have a "punched" ignition and was possibly stolen.
A man approached an elderly woman in an alley on 11th SW, claimed to have done work for her deceased husband, and asked if she would like him to clean her garage roof. She invited him in to discuss a fee and he left after accepting $700 cash as a down payment on the job. The woman decided to call police when she realized he likely wasn't returning to do the work.
And an aggressive "tree cutter" has repeatedly approached an elderly woman near 29th and Cloverdale?typically after our windstorms?asking her to use his services. The woman actually feels threatened by the man, who drives a large Ford or Dodge pickup truck.
An officer spotted a burglary suspect near the SW Precinct and stopped him for questioning. The young man was cooperative and followed all of the officer's orders, admitting that he was carrying both a gun and marijuana. Eventually it was determined that he was not the burglary suspect but someone who looked very similar. He was, however, a minor in possession of a firearm on a city street and was booked for investigation of firearms charges.
Stopped for expired tabs, a driver was warned for driving with a suspended license and for having no proof of insurance. But he was arrested on a $10,000 DUI warrant from Seattle and for a $1,100 failure to appear warrant from Tukwila.
