For those baby-boomers who grew up watching "KING's Klubhouse" with Stan Boreson, nostalgia abounds in this year's ChoralSounds Northwest Christmas concert.
Boreson will perform some of his Scandinavian-flavored parodies of Christmas favorites during shows on Dec. 13 and 14 at the Highline Performing Arts Center, 401 S. 152nd St. in Burien. Saturday's performance begins at 8 p.m. while the Sunday matinee gets underway at 2 p.m.
The performances will also mark the debut of David Spring as ChoralSounds' permanent director.
Spring takes over from founder Mark Adrian, who continues to conduct the Cantare' Vocal Ensemble.
As always, the group offers beautiful choral Christmas carols as well as family-oriented fun holiday songs and special choreography.
The first half features harmonious favorites like "The Holly and the Ivy" and "O Holy Night." A new "Sommerset Carol" is a wonderful treat.
The second half includes "Snow" from the Nutcracker and "Nutcracker Jingles."
Other well-known songs are "I'm Getting' Nuttin' for Christmas," "Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire,)" "Santa Baby" and "The Twelve Days of Christmas."
Then, Boreson appears with his special twist on Christmas tunes such as "Ragnar, the Flat Nosed Reindeer," and "Walking in My Winter Underwear."
Reserved seating tickets are $25, $18 or $15. Youth 17 and under get in free with a paying adult.
The program offering free tickets to young people is supported, in part, by the city of Burien, Fred Meyer, Norcliffe Foundation, Lucky 7 Foundation, JR Mailing Services and Target.
Tickets and information are available at 206-246-6040 or www.nwassociatedarts.org.
Marketing director Paul Bauer reports the Sunday show is almost sold out. He advises people to call to check because a few tickets may have been returned.
However, there is plenty of good seating for Saturday night, according to Bauer.
The free ticket program for youth under 17 is also good for "We Need a Little Christmas," presented by KidSounds, YouthSounds and TeenSounds Northwest.
Conducted by Paula Hawkins, the youth choirs will perform Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Highline Performing Arts Center. General admission tickets are $12 for adults and $9 for seniors.
As with ChoralSounds, tickets and information may be obtained at 206-246-6040 or www.nwassociatedarts.org.
Special guests for the concert are members of the Normandy Park Youth Orchestra, directed by Diane Lange-Jones.
"White Christmas," "Deck the Halls" and Jingle-Bell Rock" are among the Christmas favorites offered.
Also promised are clever new songs with colorful costumes and creative sets.
