King County Council member Larry Phillips will officially announce his candidacy for King County Executive today (Jan 27).
Ron Sims currently holds the elected position.
"I'm running for King County Executive to chart a new beginning for the county," said Phillips in a press release. "Times are tough right now, and the public deserves a county government that is more relevant, inclusive, cost-effective and productive."
Six months ago, Phillips, who was elected to the county council in 1991, formed an exploratory committee to measure the grassroots support for a campaign for King County Executive.
Phillips says he has a strong record of public service as a King County Council member. He has worked to keep sheriffs on our streets, to protect thousands of acres of forest lands and to solve our region’s transportation gridlock.
During the campaign, Phillips said he plans to travel to every corner of the county to learn from the public about what they want to see happen in their own communities.
Phillips letter to the community:
In a few minutes, I'm going to announce my candidacy for King County Executive. I want to thank you who have stood with me during my exploratory campaign.
Over the past few months, I've received support and encouragement from you and thousands of others who want to change the course of King County and who believe that we can, we must, and we will do better.
Times are tough, and we need a government that is more relevant, inclusive and efficient. We need effective leadership.
Make no mistake: achieving our goal won't be easy. We have a long journey ahead of us, but thanks to you, we're off to a great start.
Thank you for your support, and be sure to check out my new website at www.LarryPhillips.com to donate, volunteer, or learn more.
Sincerely,
Larry Phillips
