A citizen was suspicious when he spotted a tire rolling down California Avenue...right near a tire store. He called 911. As a result, a West Seattle man who has been arrested more than 20 times has continued his streak: He had broken into the store's storage area and was in the middle of heaving $90 worth of used tires into the back of his vehicle. He claimed to be “helping” the store's owner by taking care of the recycling and disposal on his behalf. (This despite prominent signs stating that it's unlawful to remove tires from the locked area.) The suspect mentioned he'd been doing this “service” for awhile—and the owner confirmed to officers that several thefts have occurred. The suspect's previous arrests and convictions have been for robbery in the first degree, theft, drug charges, and assaults. Did we mention that when he was apprehended he was already wearing a home detention ankle monitoring bracelet?
Near 40th and Dakota on Thursday afternoon, a man created a distraction (by challenging some citizens to fight) while his buddy was at a nearby home kicking in a door to gain access. Frightened off by an alarm, the two fled—one in a white Chrysler van, and the would-be boxer on foot. As it turns out, nothing was stolen from the home that was broken into.
Late Thursday, a white male in his 20's, with a fair complexion and red or blondish hair tried to rob an Avalon-area convenience store, but was thwarted by a clerk who brandished a baseball bat. A K9 unit tracked the suspect's scent to Avalon and Genesee, but officers were unable to find the man.
When Department of Corrections personnel paid a visit to a local registered sex offender, they found him in the living room surrounded by baggies of white powder on a table, methamphetamine (in pill form) and several piles of cocaine residue. The suspect was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant and faces investigation for criminal possession of narcotics.
In the Fauntleroy area, a woman called 911 when she discovered several strangers stealing scrap metal from her elderly father's yard. Officers found the suspects in the 6500 block of 35th. Inside their van was a variety of scrap material. Two of the vehicle's occupants were wanted on misdemeanor warrants and were arrested. They also face theft charges. Two other passengers were booked into King County Jail for investigation of theft and of criminal trespass in the third degree.
