Mon, 04/20/2009
In the 4700 block of 37th Southwest, the intoxicated man stumbled from a taxi without paying his $20 cab fare—and without his “very nice” backpack. The cab driver is holding onto the pack in hopes that the man will call to claim it...and to pay his bill.
Irritated by a 12-year-old skateboarding near her door, a 46-year-old Morgan resident yelled at him, punched him in the back and then kicked him in the thigh, even though the boy had quickly apologized and tried to leave. The woman has a history of over-reacting to circumstances and is known to officers. She was booked into King County Jail for investigation of non-aggravated assault.
When a woman ran into the Morgan Junction Starbucks early Tuesday, someone smashed in her car window and stole a laptop from a rear seat.
A 16-year-old mother has decided she “wants to finish high school and go anywhere she wants.” She asked an officer what would happen if she just left the child outside somewhere. She was told that was illegal and that she should make arrangements with the child's father, who lives out of state. She agreed to do so and said that she had already set a court date to resign custody.
Four juveniles and two adults were caught after they broke into Fairmount Park Elementary around 7 p.m. Tuesday. The adults (one from SeaTac and the other from South Park) were booked into King County Jail for investigation of criminal trespass. The juveniles were fingerprinted and released to relatives.
Caught stealing a box of beer at the Morgan Thriftway, the homeless 21-year-old told officers that he was in withdrawal from “speed” and needed the alcohol to ease his symptoms. An identity check showed that he was wanted on three outstanding warrants: driving with a suspended license ($1,000), contempt of court ($1,104), and failure to appear on a domestic violence assault charge ($10,000). The officers added “theft” to the mix and booked the man into King County Jail.
Before he was told to terminate his pursuit, an officer watched an obviously impaired driver run over curbs, zoom through Junction neighborhoods at speeds over 50 mph, and go right through several red lights, all while ignoring the officer's lights and sirens. The car was registered to a Delridge residence and was later found abandoned at 1st and Kenyon. The car did not appear to be stolen, but it was full of garbage. The vehicle was impounded.
A Westwood resident heard banging in the garage and discovered his friend with a rope, knocking holes in the ceiling, trying to find a beam from which he could hang himself. He convinced his friend to come into the house, where medics and officers evaluated the situation and transported the man to Harborview for an involuntary mental exam.
Friday night, around 10:30, the clerk at the 7-11 in the 9000 block of Delridge Way was robbed at gunpoint. The suspect was a black male, aged 30-50. He had a thin face and a goatee and wore a full-brimmed tan hat and a hooded gray sweatshirt.
Late Friday, near 20th Southwest and Southwest Henderson, a verbal argument between a driver and some pedestrians ended when one of the men on foot pulled a 9mm handgun and pointed it at the driver. The suspect is a white male in his late teens, about 5'9” and 160 pounds. He wore a baby blue shirt and dark jeans and may be associated with a Chevy Caprice.
As he was arrested at his residence on a no-bail felony escape warrant, the gentleman said he was being treated unfairly. Why? Because officers had brought along a K9 unit, which prevented him from running away as he usually did.
