Seafair is back for 60th year
Elizabeth Ratliff, 11, of Bothell, buries her face in her melon slice, a technique that garners a bicycle in the watermelon-eating contest at a past Seafoodfest event. This year, the event is July 25 and 26.

Ballard Seafoodfest, July 25 and 26
Many Ballardites probably don't think of the annual Ballard Seafoodfest (now in it's 35th year) as part of Seafair, but officially, it is.
The festival takes place in an eight-block radius in downtown Ballard centered around 20th Avenue Northwest and Northwest Market Street; July 25 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and July 26 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Admission is free.
Description from Seafair Web site:
"For the last 35 years, Ballard has celebrated its rich maritime history and Scandinavian heritage with SeafoodFest. And for two days, the streets are closed down to pay homage to the fish. From the chamber’s famous alder barbequed salmon, flown in especially for the event, to all manner of shrimp, crab, salmon, oysters, haddock and clams, there’s a seafood treat for everyone.
SeafoodFest is also famous for its great music. Our main stage features local and national performers, while the family stage offers entertainment for the younger crowd. The community stage starts each day with ditties by that Northwest favorite, Stan Boreson, followed by a variety Scandinavian musical groups.
Wine and beer gardens entertain the adults, while children enjoy the free kid’s activity center. Quality arts and crafts, situated in a relaxed setting, round out the fun for the shopping inclined. And SeafoodFest is a green event!
So mark your calendars for July 25 and 26 and don’t miss the fun. Sample food from the sea, along with bits of Nordic tradition, and let SeatoodFest Feed Your Inner Viking!"
