An alert officer was patrolling South Park on Thursday afternoon when he noticed a man (and car) that matched the description of a suspect in attempted armed robbery at a West Seattle drugstore. (The suspect had brandished a “rifle”--the pharmacist thought it was a cane—wrapped in a towel.) The officer ordered the driver out of the car at gunpoint when he wouldn't show his hands. The suspect—a convicted felon—was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant and was driving with a suspended license. He was booked into King County Jail. Oh. And that long item at his side, wrapped in a towel? That was no cane. It was a Bushmaster .223 assault rifle.
Around 7 p.m. Monday July 13, a West Seattle woman hit two parked cars as she drove on California Avenue near Southwest Andover. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire that erupted post-crash. The driver was seated nearby, and when officers contacted her they noticed the smell of alcohol and wrote that her pupils were practically in “pinpoints.” She admitted she had been drinking but couldn't say where. She refused to answer other questions until she spoke with a lawyer. (She eventually did speak to a public defender, but told officers she hanged up on him.) Her husband picked her up at the Southwest Precinct, and she was provided with a court date to face DUI charges.
Another DUI suspect was originally stopped at 21st and Henderson. After failing sobriety tests he was taken to the Southwest Precinct. He claimed his wife needed him. Then he said she was dead. But wait...he then claimed that she'd be able to provide him with a ride home. Before taking a ride to King County Jail, he asked to use the restroom. The officer's report notes that the suspect “required much assistance to keep from falling over and with pulling up his pants.”
