Passed away unexpectedly at his home with his wife by his side on Sept. 24, 2007. Born on June 13, 1931, Vernon was a lifelong Ballard resident. He was a graduate of Ballard High School and the University of Washington. He had a 40-year career in banking. During retirement he spent 20 years volunteering for his son and son-in-law's business.
Vern was the kind of man who would do anything for his family. They could always count on him for help and unconditional love and support. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Vern was generous, inquisitive, and hard working. He enjoyed a good joke and a good debate, often taking the controversial side just for argument's sake. He was an avid reader, interested in politics and often researched topics of interest for others.
He is survived by JoAnne, his loving wife of 45 years; daughter, Verona (Russ) Clingingsmith; sons, Daniel (Heather), and Rodney; grandchildren, Michelle, Morgan, Hannah, Elise, Andrew, Kylan and Faith; sister, Maxine Kostelyk (John); and mother-in-law, Jessie Eerkes. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He was a believer in Jesus Christ and a member of his church for over 35 years.
A memorial service was held at Seattle United Evangelical Free Church on Sept. 28th. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Black Lake Bible Camp 6521 Fairview Rd. S.W. Olympia, WA 98512 or the American Diabetes Association.
