Donald L. Backman passed away peacefully Easter Sunday at the age of 83. He was a man of kindness, gentleness and an easygoing spirit who was the truest of friend and could always be counted on by people in need.
He is survived by his wife, Janet T. Backman, of 62 years, 3 children Meredeth Stucky, Marilyn Crandall and Fritz Backman, 9 grandchildren, sister Doris Kirkpatrick and brother Fred Backman.
Donald was born in Fargo, N.D., moved to Seattle in 1942 where he spent the rest of his life. He worked as an oil burner technician and was a member of the Electrical Union #46 for 60 years.
He joined the Greenlake Masonic Lodge #149 in 1960 and was the Past Master twice over. Through the years he was a strong supporter of the Seattle Highland Games.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing for salmon, sailing, traveling the world, a good bottle of Scotch and spending time with friends and relatives.
He will be greatly missed by the people whose lives he touched through the years. A memorial service will be held in July. Memorials in his name can be sent to Greenlake Masonic Lodge #149, 307 N.E. Mapleleaf Pl., Seattle 98115 for the Dist. 5 Scholarship fund.
