Sharon passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2006 surrounded by family and friends.
Born July 25, 1941 to Fred and Adeline Dodd, Sharon was raised on a farm in Redmond through her grade school years. Growing up, Sharon attended many schools in the greater Seattle area and would graduate from Lake Washington High School in 1959. Influenced by her brother, Fred Jr. she developed an affinity for fast cars, which turned into a love of drag racing. She met and later married Dick Kalivoda and they would make West Seattle their home. This union produced a son, Brady, of which Sharon was so proud.
Sharon's creativity and high standards were reflected in everything she did, and she had a knack for retail merchandising. She, along with Dick, owned and operated West Seattle Speedway & Hobby from 1965 until 1978. Sharon concluded her retail career at Junction True Value Hardware in 2001.
Sharon's creativity and attention to detail could also be seen in the many crafts she enjoyed with her friends, whether it was gardening, scrapbooking, making wreaths, or greeting cards. She loved creating, sharing, and giving, and this was probably most apparent at Christmastime. Oh, how Sharon loved Christmas!
Sharon also enjoyed the outdoors. She loved fishing and spending time at her cabin in Anahim Lake, B.C. with her brother, and the rest of her family and friends. Sharon also loved cats - all cats - but hers in particular. She gave freely of her time, and was active in DRAW (Drag Racing Association of Women), various animal charities, and, later in life, various cancer charities.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her son, Brady, her brother, Fred Dodd Jr., her nieces, Julie and Robin Dodd, many many friends, and her beloved cats, Minni, Mitzi and Micki. Thank you, Mom... and just know that if I was given a chance to be anything I wanted to become, there's nothing I would rather be than your son. And there is no one I would rather have as my mother...thank you.
Her life will be celebrated privately by family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please remember Sharon with a donation to your charity of your choice.
