E. Esther Craig

Passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2006 in her West Seattle Home. Born October 14, 1916 in Bullock, South Dakota to John and Annie Jernberg from Finland. Proud of her Finnish Background, Esther moved to Long Beach California during WWII to work as "Rosie the Riveter" for the Boeing Company. Her small stature allowed her to squeeze into small areas for intricate precision work. While in Long Beach at a USO dance she met the love of her life, Laurence Alvord Craig, whom she married June 14, 1946. They had been married 44 years when he passed away in November of 1990 but to Esther, they just celebrated their 60th anniversary this June. Esther was very active in the American Legion Post 160 as an auxiliary member and past President. She was also a 40-8 member and active participant and volunteer with the American Red Cross. Larry and Esther had no children but were surrounded and are survived by twenty-four nieces and nephews. Aunt Esther was always s fixture at local gatherings as well with her other family members on her frequent visits to South Dakota. Esther leaves behind a brother, Eino Robert Jernberg of Seattle, who cared for her over the last few years, her sister Ida Gunderson of South Dakota and her Sister in Law, Evelyn Jean Roberts of West Seattle. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 25th at 2 p.m. at Yarringtons Funeral Home at 10708 16th Ave SW. and there will be a 3 p.m. reception at the American Legion Hall at 3618 Alaska Street in West Seattle.
