John E. Saeger was born to Marie (Abney) and Pliny Saeger June 21, 1924 in Seattle, Washington. He was the youngest of 4 children. He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1943. He served in WWII in the 475th Fighter Group as an airplane and engine mechanic on the P38 Lightning. He was later named Crew Chief and given his own plane.
He married Beverly Allen April 29, 1950 in Seattle where they raised 3 children: Jeanne, Jill, and Robert.
He remained in West Seattle and worked for US Steel for 35 years. He moved to Stevensville, Montana in 1990 where he bought a log home and lived happily near his son Bob and with his dog "Bear". John enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the outdoors.
On his last fishing trip to Alaska with his son this past July he caught a 47-pound king salmon.
John passed away August 7, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada where he lived the past year with his son Bob and daughter-in-law Casey and granddaughter Marina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie (Abney) and Pliny Sr., sisters June and Katie, brother Pliny Jr. and daughter Jeanne Marie Saeger (2001). He is survived by his son Robert and daughter-in-law Casey Saeger of Las Vegas; daughter Jill and son-in law Tony Knapp of Port Orchard; granddaughter Nichole and grandson-in-law Darron Forsell of West Seattle; granddaughter Jessica (Mousset) and grandson-in-law David Cook of Port Orchard; granddaughter Julia Knapp of Port Orchard; granddaughter Marina Saeger of Las Vegas; great-grandchildren Alyssa and Brandon Forsell of West Seattle; Shayne, Haley and Matthew Cook of Port Orchard. He also had another granddaughter and great-grandson both due this coming October.
Services were held at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in West Seattle Sunday, August 13, 2006 followed by a reception at Nichole and Darron's home. -We love you Papa and will miss you terribly.
