Herbert L. Harris

Long time West Seattle resident passed away peacefully on September 14th. Herb was born in the present day ghost town of Gilmore, Idaho on December 1, 1917. He was descendent of Martin Harris who helped to found the Mormon Church. Herb's family and his mother's family, the Neville's, moved to West Seattle via Model T Fords in 1923. Herb went to Gatewood Elementary and graduated from West Seattle High School where he met and married his devoted wife, Lorraine, of 66 years. Herb was proud to have served under John D. Bulkeley on the USS Endicott DD 495 as a welder during WWII. Herb was a civic-minded father of three sons and was proud to have been a troop leader of two Boy Scout Troops 772 and 268. He and his good friend Jack Brix were instrumental in the founding of the Arbor Heights Community Swimming Pool. He was a home builder most of his life, building many homes in West Seattle, Arbor Heights, Burien, Bellevue, Kent and Olympia through his self owned company: Trojan Builders. He enjoyed oil painting, golfing, archery, sailing, people, and laughing. His wife Lorraine, three sons Norman, Bruce, and Craig, and a grandson, Kristopher-Kent Herbert Harris, survive him.
