Maxine left us peacefully on November 15, 2006 after a full life of 84 years. She leaves behind five daughters (Janice, Joyce, Joan, Karen and Carol), a son (Phillip) and five grandchildren (Adrienne, Adam, Paul, Katelin and Heather), a brother (Everett) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Edward Tomisser. She will be greatly missed by us all and leaves a legacy of love and support.
Maxine had a number of passions and a true zest for life. She lived in West Seattle for over 50 years and was involved daily with the community. Maxine was an ardent Seattle sports fan. The Mariners and Sonics were among her year-round favorite topics and following. Her other passions included her church and her family, especially her grandchildren. One of Maxine's greatest joys as a mother of twins was helping in the early care of her twin granddaughters. Maxine encouraged and supported her children and grandchildren in many activities from sports to music to volunteering in their community.
Maxine's exuberance and love of life came from surviving an advanced cancer of over 22 years by literally willing herself to heal. Her positive inspiration still amazes us all and allowed her time to be very active in her grandchildren's lives. Maxine led us all by example; showing resilience, strength and unshakable determination in overcoming adversity. Maxine continually moved forward and enjoyed life to its fullest.
The Tomisser Family wishes to thank Swedish Medical Center for all their support over the past 24 years. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Henry Kaplan, Dr. Michael Doherty and the entire staff of Swedish Hospital Neurology who cared for Maxine during her last days.
Maxine will be available for visitation on Friday, November 24, 2006 from 1pm to 7pm at Howden-Kennedy Funeral Home (3909 SW Alaska St.)
A service celebrating Maxine's life at will be held beginning at 11a.m on December 9, 2006 at West Seattle Christian Church (4400 42nd Avenue Southwest).
