Police Blotter Week of 02/01/10
Mon, 02/01/2010
With their jackets stuffed with $300 worth of lotions, a man and a woman managed to slip through security at a Junction pharmacy last week as a clerk called 911.
Around 4 p.m. Wednesday, a would-be burglar was surprised when he entered a Morgan Junction-area bedroom and found the homeowner in bed. Muttering that he thought it was his own house, the suspect made a hasty retreat through a rear door—followed by the victim, who called 911 as the suspect darted across 35th SW. Officers tracked the suspect and took him into custody. Before being patted down, he denied carrying any objects that might harm the officer—yet in his jacket pocket they found a loaded syringe (likely containing heroin). The 46-year-old West Seattle man—who was also wanted on a felony escape warrant—was booked into King County Jail for the warrant and for investigation of burglary and on drug charges.
On Monday, a mail carrier alerted a neighbor after he found a 104-year-old woman slumped over on her front doorstep. Medics arrived and pronounced her deceased.
Near Avalon Way, a 12-year-old was emptying the garbage when he had to jump to avoid being hit by a driver careening down an alley. The suspect stopped for a moment on the street, got out of his car (beer in hand), and then sped off again before officers could respond. Officers note that the suspect has a suspended license and that his car tabs are expired.
Officers admonished a 36-year-old who was selling magazines door-to-door on Beach Drive without proper paperwork or license.
A White Center man under Department of Correction supervision was trespassed from the Metropolitan Market in Admiral after he was seen opening a box of bandages and shoving some down the front of his pants. A male and female friend—who had also been in the store—took off in different directions and were not questioned. Officers looked in his vehicle (the man himself has a suspended license, but there was no way to establish who had been driving) and saw several open containers. When they reminded the 77-year-old that drinking alcohol was a violation of his probation, the officer writes, “he just kind of shrugged it off.”
On Tuesday, a citizen at a bus stop kept an eye on what he thought was a suspicious vehicle near Brandon and Findlay. He paid particular attention when he heard three gunshots and watched the car take off at a high rate of speed southbound down an alley. Officers found three 38-caliber shell casings and one unfired bullet. The car was an early 90s Ford Explorer with a “sparkly minty-green” paint job. The driver was a stocky Hispanic male. A passenger was a slender Hispanic male wearing a stocking hat.
Hoping he had changed his ways, a woman allowed her ex-boyfriend into her home when her protection order against him expired last week. But later, when she asked him to leave, he slapped her on the face and argued. When officers entered, they found (and confiscated) a bullet-proof vest on the floor. (The suspect—a convicted felon—is not allowed to own body armor.) The 37-year-old West Seattle resident was booked in to King County Jail for investigation of domestic violence assault.
