Lucille O. Peterson

Lucille O. Peterson (Lucy) passed away peacefully at Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland, WA, December 2, 2006, after a long struggle with complications from hip surgery.

Born June 25, 1913, at Creosote, Bainbridge Island, she later moved to West Seattle with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Hausman and brother, Claude. Lucille attended Lafayette grade school and West Seattle High.

In 1932, after marrying her childhood sweetheart, Harold (Sharkey) Peterson, she and Harold moved to the Beverly Park/Top Hat area as one of the area's original settlers where they worked together clearing land to build their lifetime home in the wooded "stump farm" terrain where Lucille would live for the next 74 years.

She retired from Building Services, Local 6 in 1975. After Harold's passing in 1983, Lucille continued on with her passion for gardening and was active in the Beverly Park Community Cub where she and Harold were charter members. She was "Grandma Pete" for two generations in the tightly knit neighborhood and was always there with a sympathetic ear and a cup of tea for anyone who needed her. Lucille is survived by her son, Chuck Peterson (wife Nan) of Des Moines, WA; grandson Mark (wife Dawn), four great grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild, of Yorktown, VA.
