Born in Roslyn, Washington on July 26, 1922. Passed away on Feb. 6, 2007. Preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Butts (1975); his parents, Louis (1975) and Mary K. (1981) and his brother, Joseph (2003).
Married to his wife, Asenath, for almost 60 years (six months shy).
Survived by his daughter Mary Ann; his grandson Craig; his sister Evelyn and family and our extended family, the Raphael Burgas family and the Rick Butts family.
Ed served in the Army's 10th Mountain Infantry Division in Colorado during WWII. He always thought that it was important to help the veterans of our country. He volunteered over 6,000 hours at the Veterans' Hospital here in Seattle. When he travelled south during the winter, he volunteered at the Yuma Regional Hospital and accumulated 160 hours of volunteering.
He also volunteered for many years at the West Seattle Food Bank. These volunteer hours say a lot about the generous spirit he was.
Ed loved a good joke and a dry martini. He was always grinning and having fun. He loved family get-togethers with good food and good conversations.
Fishing and football were his passions. Many a family vacation was spent fishing at Westport and Sekiu. Springtime meant the fish were biting at Summit Lake and nothing was more delectable than fresh trout for dinner.
He was an avid (or is that rabid?) Huskies fan and season ticket holder for about 40 years. He lost his voice many times, screaming and cheering on the Seahawks too. A true sports nut!
He was a member of the Roslyn/Ronald Heritage Club and was proud to be a part of the Coal Miner's Memorial in his hometown.
He has been a member of Holy Rosary Parish since 1955, where he ushered at the 8 a.m. Mass for many years.
He was a past trustee of the West Seattle Eagles.
He was the first veteran hired at Bethlehem Steel Co. after WWII, where he worked for 38 years.
A memorial service was held at Holy Rosary Church, Feb. 10. Memorial contributions may be made to the Medic One Foundation or your charity of choice.
We will miss you, Ed! You leave a void in our lives and a hole in our hearts. We love you! Rest in peace and joy.
