Bernice (Neecy) was born to Arthur and Ragna Harman in Seattle in 1925. She was an alumni of West Seattle High and Seattle College. She married James F. McGarry in 1946 with whom she raised four children: Arthur (Dan) of Seattle; Steven of Takoma Park, Md.; and Catherine and Marie of San Carlos, Calif.
Bernice started her career in the hospitality business as secretary to Edward Carlson at Western Hotels. She spent many years managing clubs, including the Women's University Club, Sand Point Golf and Country Club, Central Park Tennis Club, and Illahe Hills Country Club. She was the first woman to serve on the National Board of the Club Managers Association of America, and the first to head its Evergreen Chapter.
Bernice was preceded in death by her loving husband, James, and brothers, Elmer and Arnold. Besides her children, she is survived by her brother Leon, and grandchildren Molly, Maria, Alice, Sean, John, Lillian, Jimmy and Roger.
Funeral Mass was at Assumption Church, 6201 33rd Ave. N.E., Seattle March 21, 2007. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Discalced.
