Raleigh is a Parson Russell Terrier who loves chasing rats, squirrels and "anything that's round and bounces," said his owner Rick Moerloos.
Raleigh is a Parson Russell Terrier. Rick Moerloos his owner explained, "He's similar to a Jack Russell Terrier but a little bit taller and he's got that kind of wiry hair, and he's actually much nicer than Jack Russell's."
Raleigh is 6 1/2 years old and very active, typical for the breed, "But he's pretty mellow at home," said Moerloos, "He's a little snuggler. He loves to sit in our laps when we watch TV."
Raleigh has had two knee surgeries but it hasn't slowed him down a bit. "He was chasing a squirrel and he tore his ligament in one of his rear legs," said Moerloos, "and he's got a daschund brother at home and a Welsh Terrier."
This must keep him active enough because he was out roller blading on Harbor Avenue sometimes towing Moerloos, sometimes just keeping pace.
But Raleigh has the distinction of being what is referred to as an EarthDog. There is an organization called Puget Sound EarthDogs that sponsors "ratting events" that feature mazes and tunnels in which dogs of this type compete. "He did very well," said Moerloos, "he's a natural." They hold these events a couple of times a year plus some practice events. "He's working on his Junior Title," said Moerloos, "he's just starting."
