Miriam Tyler Seymour

Born February 7, 1917, in Tacoma, Miriam's generous soul left this earth July 22, 2007. She reluctantly left her husband of nearly 66 years, Richard Stanley, two older sisters, Alison T. Seymour and Ruth Wiesen, two children, Ric Seymour and Lucinda Wingard, both of Gig Harbor, five grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.

Miriam valued education very highly. She and her sisters earned college degrees during the Depression and went on to successful careers. Mim was a Teacher of the Deaf at Seattle Hearing and Speech Center, working with pre-school children and their families. After retirement in 1979, she remained a life-long learner, opinionated and full of humor.

Mim's tenacious love of life showed in her many volunteer activities. She shared her talents at church, at her grandchildren's schools, and at her last home, Merrill Gardens of Gig Harbor. She sang for many years in the choir at Alki Congregational Church in Seattle. She involved herself in civic affairs, including but not limited to the League of Women Voters, and supported the work of Tacoma Community House. She expressed her artistic side creating countless knitting, sewing, and needlework projects for her family and friends.

Mim leaves behind a strong family that is trying to live the values she taught us by example.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, 2 p.m., July 31, 2007 at Haven of Rest Funeral Home, Gig Harbor 253.851.9991.
