Died Friday, July 20, 2007 in Seattle. She was born October 17, 1921 in Letcher, South Dakota. She settled down to raise her family in West Seattle and lived there for 60 years. She was a longtime employee of Sears and retired in 1981.

Preceding her in death were her parents Eugene and Mary Bowman, her brothers Donald and Stuart Bowman, first husband Leon Hansen and second husband Eugene "Bud" O'Brien. She is survived by her sister Eleanor (Mike) Wolf; children Nancy (Klaus) Weyel, David (Carol) Hansen and Susan Hansen; step-children Pat (Anne) O'Brien, Terry O'Brien and Kathleen (Ralph) Toenjost; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Louise Aske and brother-in-law Jim O'Brien, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Services were held at 12 p.m., Saturday July 28, 2007 at Howden-Kennedy Funeral Home of West Seattle, 3909 S.W. Alaska St., Seattle, WA 98116. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Children's Hospital Foundation, Sequim Guild, P.O. Box 50020, Seattle 98145 in memory of Josephine O'Brien.
