Nell M. Wheeler was born September 6, 1917 in Calgary, Alberta. Our beloved Nell went to meet our Lord and her dear husband of 64 years, Al, on July 3, 2007, her 70th wedding anniversary. She passed after a short, and blessedly painless bout of cancer.
Always a naturally talented artist, she went on to develop that talent, and become a successful Northwest artist. She was particularly known for her street scenes of Seattle in the rain. She saw beauty in all of nature, which led her to be an avid gardener. She especially loved dogs and was a longtime supporter of PAWS, Defenders of Wildlife and many others. She loved to entertain in the home she designed, hosting many lovely dinners, gatherings and poker parties over the years.
This kind and lovely lady was also very conscious of the social needs of the less fortunate among us. She was a lifelong supporter of Catholic missionary efforts, and for the last 20 years, served as president of the Holy Family Seattle conference of St. Vincent de Paul.
Nell is survived by her son Douglas of Manila, and sister Mary Van Son of Gulf Breeze Florida and many loving nieces and nephews.
Her Memorial Mass will be held in Holy Family Catholic Church in White Center, on Tuesday July 31 at 10 a.m. Remembrances are suggested to Holy Family St. Vincent de Paul, 9622 20th Ave S.W., Seattle 98106.
