Hermina L. Colvin

Hermina L. "Hermie" Colvin of Ocean Shores, Washington, passed away July 12, 2007 at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Aberdeen, Washington, at the age of 91. She was born in Leadville, Colorado to parents Frank and Amalia (Mihich) Luzar whom immigrated from Austria. She lived in Leadville for approximately six years and then along with her parents, two older half-brothers and one older half-sister, they moved to Renton, Washington. She resided there until she was married to John Swieski in 1939 and the couple took up residency in West Seattle, Washington. There they had two children. From 1938 to 1942, Hermie worked for the School Boy Peanut Butter Company in Seattle. After her daughter, Kelly Bev-Ann, was born, Hermie remained at home, being a homemaker. Her son, John, was born in 1950, and unfortunately he died of leukemia in 1957. Hermie returned to work in 1959, for a short time, in the laundry department at St. Vincent's Home in West Seattle. Hermina was widowed in 1967.

A few years later, in 1973, she met her future husband Emil "Bud" H. Colvin they were married in 1979. The couple resided in West Seattle until he died in 2001. She then sold her home, and lived with her daughter and son-in-law, first in Seattle and then in Ocean Shores until the time of her death.

Hermie belonged to the West Seattle Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie # 2643; Ladies Auxiliary beginning in 1973 and was involved with the interviewing committee and participated on the Floor Team. She enjoyed making and donating food and craft items and over all the years she had made numerous friends.

Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, beaded jewelry, holiday ornaments, hooked rugs and various forms of embroidery. Her favorite pastimes were shopping, trying new restaurants, car rides, watching the Ocean Shores wildlife, TV soap operas on NBC, telephone chats, Christmas holiday and visiting with her relatives and friends.

Hermina is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Richard Major; a grandson, Scott Major; two great granddaughters, Nicole and Daphne Major off of Ocean Shores; three step-sons and their wives, Al and Laurel Colvin of Kamuela, Hawaii, Jerry and Shelley Colvin of

Hermina Colvin Spokane, Washington and Harvey and Linda Colvin of Des Moines, Washington, as well as many step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Her son, John Swieski, two half-brothers, Larry and Adolph Muhich of Renton, Washington and her half sister, Amelia Slye of Auburn, Washington, predeceased her. ---- The family will miss you, mom.

An interment will be by the Forest Lawn Funeral Home at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Seattle. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Local arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
