Evelyn Louise (Campbell) DeBritz

Peacefully passed away surrounded by family in West Seattle on July 21, 2007.

Eve was a fun-loving, spicy and feisty well-loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren referred to her as "Granny Cakes." Often mail would be delivered to her condo with just the words "Granny Cakes," yet the mailman knew to whom it should be delivered.

Born in Seattle to Chauncey and Mabel Campbell on September 22, 1918, she was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert; and later, by her good friend Ken Nelson.

She graduated from Garfield High School, class of 1936 where she lettered in four sports. She worked in the clothing industry and managed departments at J.C. Penney, Fredrick & Nelson and Layman's Apparel.

Evelyn met her husband, Ted, through her best friend and his sister, Mae. The spent the first year of their marriage in the Mt. Baker district of Seattle. In 1944 they moved to West Seattle where they raised their family. In recent years, she lived in Allyn and Bremerton until she moved to the Kenney Home in Seattle.

Granny Cakes especially loved her summers at their cabin on Hood Canal. She was famous for her raspberry Jell-O salad and for never missing a party. She loved her children (Georgia Huntley of Allyn, Rodger (Shelly) DeeBritz of Allyn and Gloria Mathews of Seattle), her nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was always quick with a laugh and carried doggie treats for her four-legged friends.

A life celebration was held at Admiral UCC on August 6. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the North Mason Cancer Crusadors, P.O. Box 40, Belfair, Wash. 98528.
