Rodney Orrin Dahley

After a nine month battle with lung cancer, Rod passed away at home on 8/25/07 - at age 63. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Gwen, their son Dean and his wife Ann; daughter Deana and her husband Jeff Falk; sister Betty Lou and husband Stu O'Donnell; brother Randy and his wife Linda; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceeded in death by his parents Orrin and Lucille Dahley, and sister Barbara Anderson.

Rod was born July 29, 1944, Bremerton Washington, the third of four children. The family moved back and forth between there and Montana a couple of times before finally settling in West Seattle on Harbor Avenue. In 1955, the family moved to the 2700 block on 44thAvenue SW where he met his childhood sweetheart, Gwen Hatt. After graduating from West Seattle High School in 1962, he joined the Navy to proudly serve his country. He and Gwen married in April 1967. He worked a few jobs after leaving the Navy in 1965. Rod retired in 2004, after 34 years as chief engineer for the Port of Seattle at Sea-Tac Airport,where he made everlasting close friends He will always be remembered as "Mr. Fix-it". There wasn't anything he couldn't fix, build, or remodel; except for his illness. He was a mentor to all who knew him, but especially to his son and brother. They valued his knowledge and there were many phone calls asking "How do I do this, or how do I do that". An exceptional human being who will be missed beyond words. We love you Rod - you're in our hearts forever.
