Longtime West Seattle resident, Dagny went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 23, 2007 after suffering a stroke. Born on August 3, 1923 in Pitea, Sweden, she came to the U.S. at age six. She lived in Ballard, then Alaska, and then Ballard again for her senior year of high school.
Dagny married Howard Carlson of Rockford, Illinois in 1942. They had two children. Howard was killed in action on Okinawa in 1945. She married Len Hagardt in 1950 becoming mother to his two sons. Len died in 1991.
She was a former employee, then volunteer, and finally resident at The Kenney Presbyterian Retirement Home. She was a member of the West Seattle Christian Church. But first and foremost she was a much loved, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Dagny is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Wheeler) Grey of Kent, her son Rodney (Linda) Carlson of Holland, Michigan, her two stepsons, Ben (Debi) and Len (Syndi) Hagardt of Port Orchard, her brother Gunnar Safsten of Port Orchard, her half sister, Eivor Ohlund of Pitea, Sweden, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held August 28, 2007, at the West Seattle Christian Church. Memorials may be made to the West Seattle Christian Church building fund or The Kenney Presbyterian Retirement Home.
