Joseph Henry Smith Sr., 69, died August 31, 2007 at his home in Shelton. He was born March 28, 1938 in Seattle to Ernest George and Evelyn Elizabeth (Ulvestad) Smith. He married Shirley E. Wright on August 15, 1959 in Fort Lawton, WA.
He worked as a truck driver for various companies for 38 years, a forklift operator for the Todd Shipyards for six years and was a truck driver instructor for two years. Joseph was a member of Teamsters Local 174 in Seattle. He was a league bowler and he enjoyed fishing, shuffleboard, cutting wood, driving trucks, bowling and going to the beach where the wind blows.
Joseph is survived by his wife Shirley Smith of Shelton, two sons Jeff J. Smith and wife Nadine of Shelton, Joseph H. Smith Jr. of SeaTac, one daughter Lisa G. Sample and husband Guy of Kent, grandson Jeffrey J. Smith Jr. and wife Harmony of Shelton, granddaughter Junella A. Smith and husband Daniel of Ft. Lewis, grandson Chris Smith of SeaTac, granddaughter Kayla Sample of Kent, grandson Kyle Sample of Kent, granddaughter Jaclynn Smith of Shelton, great granddaughters Arianna Smith of Shelton, Alexis Smith of Shelton, great grandson Cayden Smith of Shelton and great granddaughter Ashanalee Smith of Fort Lewis. He is preceded in death by his parents Ernest G. Smith (1981) and Evelyn E. Smith (1982). Memorial donations may be sent to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, J5-200, PO Box 19024 Seattle, WA 98109-1024. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Civic Center, 525 W.
