Joan I. Buck, 75, of Seattle, died Saturday, October 13th at age 75. The mother of 10 is survived by her beloved husband, Carl.

She died from complications of multiple sclerosis.

While suffering from the debilitating disease for almost 50 years and bed-ridden for the last 25, Joan was an inspiration to hundreds of friends and thousands of others who suffer from M.S. It was often stated that visitors didn't come to visit Joan Braseth Buck to make her feel better, but instead visited her so they could better understand how they should live their own lives. Her unwavering Catholic faith and personality can best be characterized by one word: Love. She taught it by example.

Born in Seattle in 1931, Joan Braseth Buck attended Holy Rosary High School and Seattle University.

Her passions included tutoring children to read. She loved the classic writers, but none more than William Shakespeare.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph B. Braseth, Sr., who died in 1981.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Buck is survived by her 10 children, Shelley, Christine, Lori, Mark, Jeanne, Ralph, John, Margaret, Elizabeth and Mary.

Visitation took place at Howden-Kennedy Funeral home last Thursday from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. A Rosary-vigil followed.

A funeral Mass took place on Friday, October 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
