Doris Gillespie

Doris Jansen Gillespie was born October 28, 1911 in Seattle, WA where she resided for her entire life with the exception of 2 school years spent in Seward Alaska, w/ Summers at that time at the Fauntleroy beach. Her parents were Charles Henry Jansen & Jennie Louise Jansen, nee Wright (of family stock arriving before statehood). She graduated from the original Lafayette Grade School & West Seattle High School, entered the UW at age 16, and graduated w/ a degree in medical social work at age 20. She was also the 1st Worthy Advisor of West Seattle Rainbow Assembly, and served her sorority Phi Omega Pi which later merged with Delta Zeta and served in advisory capacities on the local & national levels for collegiate and alumni. She was also proud of her work w/ P.T.A. & Girl Scouting.

On May 16, 1936 Mom and Dad, Stuart C. Gillespie were married ... and they enjoyed 45 years of marriage until his untimely death in 1981. They were able to share many fine travel memories throughout the years at Napili Kai Beach Club, Maui, and cruising the World, enjoying Charter Membership in the View Ridge Swim & Tennis Club, ballroom dancing at the "100 Club," and active participation in the Seattle Photographic and the Puget Sound Maritime Societies. Mom worked for Harborview Hospital in the 1st class of Medical Social Workers, and later as a Field Representative for Children's Home Society of Washington. She was also active as a volunteer doing programs for nursing homes, assisting at the National Archives, and as a docent at the Museum of History and Industry.

Doris passed away on December 17, 2007. She is survived by daughter, Betty G. Dolan, son-in-law James M. Dolan, and the large loving Dolan family. At her request, there will not be a service. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements were handled through People's Memorial Funeral Cooperative.
