Federal Way athletes scored big at the June 21-25 West Central District -- and scored state tournament berths as a result.
Kayla Adams of Thomas Jefferson led the local pack, winning the shot put with a 43-00.50 effort and taking the discus with a throw of 133-01.
Maurice McNeal of Federal Way won the boy 400-meter dash in a time of 48.78 seconds, edging out his brother Ezekiel's second place effort of 49.33. Michael Tate of the Eagles took eighth in 53.05.
Robert Shelby won the boys 300 hurdles for the Eagles in 38.31 with TJ's Scott Sanford third a 39.01. Shelby was also seventh in the boys 110 hurdles with a time of 16.24.
Federal Way took first in the boys 1,600 relay in 3:20.49 and Todd Beamer was eighth in 3:27.44, while Federal Way placed second in the girls 400 relay in 49.02 with Todd Beamer eighth in 50.10.
Federal Way's Trenton Pinson took the boys 100-meter dash in 11.02 and Eagles teammate Jaleecia Roland won the high jump at 5-04.
Moriah Bentley of Todd Beamer was eighth in the high jump at 5-00.
Maurice McNeal of the Eagles captured second in the boys 200 in 22.25 and teammate Pinson placed fourth in 22.50.
Thomas Jefferson took sixth in the boys 400 relay in 43.75 and Beamer was eighth in 43.77.
The Raiders' Chase Braxmeyer took second in the 3,200 run in 9:25.41 and Majerea Gates of Federal Way was second in the 100-meter dash in 12.55.
Jasmine Johnson finished second in the girls 800 for the Eagles in 2:16.14 and TJ's Dahl was second in the girls triple jump in 46-00.75 ahead Federal Way's Roland in 36-00.00. Dahl was also third in the javelin at 122-09 with Kendra Ansotigue fourth for TJ at 117-00.
Michael Salle of TJ was fourth in the boys long jump at 20-09.50 with Michael Tate of Federal Way eighth in 20-04.25. Matt Barner came in fourth for TJ in the pole vault at 12-06. The Raiders' Sanford was fifth in the triple jump at 42-10.75 just ahead of TJ teammate Sallee at 42-09.00.
Lindsey Dahl took fifth in the 300 hurdles in 47.10 and Tiara Fuller of Federal Way was seventh in 16.71 in the 100 hurdles. TJ's Mikhail Vlasenko was seventh in the discus at 131-00.
DeShaun Williams of Federal Way placed eighth in the boys 1,600 in 4:23.30 and Decatur's Drew Thompson wound up in a four-way tie for eighth in the high jump at 5-10.
Todd Beamer took eighth in the girls 800 elay in 1:47.53.
State action runs Friday and Saturday at the South End Recreation Area in Tacoma.
