The vicim was outside of a business on Northwest Leary Way with her service dog. The suspect came walking up from the north and was behind a pillar when the victim's service dog began to bark.
When the dog began to bark, the suspect pulled a knife and continued to walk toward the dog.
The victim heard her dog barking and looked to see what it was barking at. The victim observed the suspect holding a knife in his left hand, low and to his side.
The suspect told the victim that he was going to cut the dog's throat, at which the victim said it was her service dog and he, the suspect, would have to cut her throat first. The victim stated that the suspect said he would cut her throat also.
The suspect continued to close in on the victim and her dog. The suspect got very close to the victim, within inches, still holding the knife.
There was a customer in the store that heard a woman screaming and looked out to see the suspect in the victim's face. The witness stated that he thought the suspect was going to just "tear into her," the victim.
The victim told me that she felt as if she was going to be stabbed and tried to pull back from the suspect, but the suspect just kept coming at her.
The vicim managed to get to the phone and told the suspect that she was going to call the police. The suspect told her to go ahead.
When police arrived on the scene, they could see that there was a female outside of the store with a dog but no suspect. When police approached the victim, the suspect came out from a large pillar he had been using to conceal himself.
The suspect was told to stop and keep his hands out where police could see them. The suspect did not follow these commands and continued to close in on police. The suspect was less than 12 feet away when he reached for his left rear side.
After the vicim was detained, officers removed a black knife sheath containing a black-handled knife from the suspect's left rear pants pocket.

I contacted complainant at her residence. She stated that someone entered the residence by forcing the back door open and stole a number of items.
Complainant's husband got home around 5 p.m. and found the back door open.
Complainant told police that a neighbor across the street saw a young male knock on her door for a long period of time at noon. The neighbor didn't think much about it because she was leaving at the time.
Damage to the back door was minor, but it appeared the suspect pried it open with possibly a crowbar.
