Herbert Rex Koenigshof

(March 31, 1927 - February 28, 2008)

Passed away at home in Seattle, Washington on February 28, 2008. He was born March 31, 1927 in Buchanan Michigan to Sylvia (Wolkins) and Edward Koenigshof.

His childhood in rural Buchanan Michigan was full of wonderful memories of adventurous times and a few playful pranks with his brothers and sister. Especially memorable was growing up in the log home his father built.

Herbert served his country in the United States Navy during World Was II. After honorable service with the Navy in the South Pacific, Herbert worked as an electrician, and piano tuner. At that time he met Evelyn Newberg and they married November 8, 1958.

Herbert worked for Clark Equipment in Michigan for many years, then for Pan Am Airlines in Washington State.

One of Herbert's favorite summer activities was gardening, especially growing tomatoes and raspberries. He also enjoyed sail boating on Lake Union, fishing, and woodworking. After retiring, he volunteered at the Puget Sound Maritime Heritage Society where he could share his boating knowledge with others.

He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in West Seattle.

Herbert is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 49 years; brothers Gerald, William, and John; daughter Sara Furman; and grandchildren Jennifer, Matthew, Veronica, and Steven. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Katherine, and brother Robert.
