Purse thief spends over $800
Des Moines police have not yet apprehended a man who stole a purse from a nursing home last month and bought over $800 worth of goods. The suspect had been seen in the nursing home twice before, but the police were not notified until a nurse discovered her purse missing.
The suspect was filmed on a security camera at the Redondo Safeway, where he used the debit card.
Malicious arts and crafts incident
The school resource officer for Chinook Middle School reported that a suspect had taken a paper clip fashioned into a sharp clay engraving tool and hidden it in a ball of clay. He then convinced a classmate to punch the ball of clay, causing the classmate injury.
Counterfeit bill circulates
Police were informed that the victim was given a counterfeit bill at a check cashing business, which was not recognized at the time. When the victim tried to spend the bill at a small grocery store, the clerk recognized the bill as counterfeit.
Guest steals money orders
A disabled person reported that several blank money orders had been stolen from his kitchen table by a person he had invited into his home. He had known the suspect for two months, and the suspect often carried his groceries into his home for him. The victim reported that there had not been any prior problems with the suspect.
Traffic stop turns into chase
Four people are under arrest after leading police and sheriff's deputies on a chase in Burien. Deputies say it all started as a traffic stop on Ambaum Boulevard near S. 136th Street at around 3 a.m. June 21.
"They identified that one of the passengers (a female) in the vehicle had a felony warrant for their arrest," said Sergeant John McSwain of the King County Sheriff's Office. "The driver was uncooperative and then fled." McSwain said one of the passengers had already been taken out of the car and was being detained when the chase began. The brief chase ended when officers managed to stop the car by using a PIT maneuver at 9th Ave. SW and SW Henderson Street in White Center.
The fleeing car did not hit anything. Nobody was injured. All four were taken into custody. McSwain said the driver will be booked for felony eluding and is being investigated for DUI. A second female passenger was taken into custody for obstructing.
