Our beautiful mother, Marjorie Elizabeth Gunderson, 88, nee Brenaman, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at The Right Place, the senior living residence where she had lived and was lovingly cared for these last three years. Until a month before his death in 2001, she had cared for our father in their home. Ralph had lived many years with multiple sclerosis. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the MS Society. That would be a fitting tribute for them both.
She was also preceded in death by an infant son years ago named Kenneth. She is survived by her four children, Gail (Richard Evans), Gordon Gunderson (Nancy), Gwen Gunderson (David Platt) and Gary Gunderson (Vicki). She had the blessing of enjoying seven grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. She also has a brother, Lawrence Brenaman (Leslie), formerly of Magnolia, and now of West Seattle. There are many other extended family members and friends too numerous to mention.
Married in 1940 to Ralph Gunderson, she lived all of her married life in West Seattle. She was born and raised on Capital Hill in Seattle and was a graduate of the old Broadway High School, whose reunions she never missed. To her death, she fondly remembered the friend of her childhood, Carolyn Blumenthal Danz. They shared the same birth date, July 30. Once a month for almost 70 years, she met with her fellow Gamma Gamma Girls, each a graduate of another Seattle area high school. Marjorie loved the out of doors, and gardening was her life's passion. A member of First Lutheran Church of West Seattle since 1940, her funeral and burial will be at Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery on Saturday, February 23, at 1 p.m.
Mom lived a simple life, valuing good health and gardening and visiting people. "Her children shall rise up and call her blessed."
