WE'RE MOVING, AND SO IS OUR HOUSE. This 1924 Craftsman house was moved a mil northwest from 42nd Avenue SW to a lot on Stevens Street, beginning at 3:00 a.m. Sunday, July 18. Here it passes through the California Avenue and SW Oregon Street intersection.
This three-bedroom 1924 house rolled off its 42nd Avenue Southwest lot, just north of the QFC at 3:00 a.m. Sunday Morning, July 18, and was moved about a mile northwest, traveling on California Avenue SW. Its current owners, Beth Koutsky and Jacques White, followed along as the house was moved and plan to live in it, on its Southwest Stevens Street lot.

"It's pretty exciting, kind of emotional really," said Beth. "It sort of feels like you're plucking someone from an orphanage. It would be nice if we could find homes for all these other houses too," she said pointing to some charming homes, then a not-as-charming townhouse cluster.
"Watching it come off the ledge was like watching sausage being made, kind of fascinating but kind of unsettling," recalled Jacqes, as his house cruised by the 7/11 at California and Charlestown.
"It was a coordinated effort with all the municipal departments that really made it possible," said Alex Schenkar, principal of Schenkar Construction Design/Build. He partnered with D.B. Davis. "It's a pretty big show and logistics are extremely complicated. It's going real well."
The move was smooth sailing on California Avene and west onto Charlestown Street but hit a snag when the house had to slide between trees on both sides of 45th Avenue SW. The crew had to unscrew street signs at certain points to get it to slide past. It threaded the needle and glided past Madison Middle School at about 4:30 a.m.
The house finally arrived at its new 'home' to be put in place around 6 AM.
