Seattle Councilmember Rasmussen to Walk & Talk in 'The Triangle'
Wed, 07/21/2010
Seattle City Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, working with the FeetFirst organization is coming to do a 'Walk and Talk' of 'The Triangle' in West Seattle. The event is scheduled for August 31 from 6pm to 8pm.
Bounded and bisected by Fauntleroy Way SW, 35th Avenue SW and SW Alaska Street this area is central to the health and future of West Seattle. It is located east of the Junction and is home to a variety of locally owned businesses and the West Seattle YMCA. Along 35th Avenue S.W. it's across from the West Seattle Golf Course.
When the Huling Bros. auto dealerships sold and Gee Automotive closed only a year later it had a major impact on this area of West Seattle.
Since then it has been the subject of a Draft Study by the Department of Planning and Development with a number of aims.
Of particular interest to West Seattle are improvements to public spaces, such as streetscapes and pedestrian amenities. Updating land use regulations can help to shape new development. Two important objectives—public realm improvements and future development consistent with the West Seattle Junction Neighborhood Plan—are the focus of this effort
Rasmussen's goal is to focus attention on the triangle and help educate the public on how walking and transit are becoming a key part of supporting the health and economy of this area.
The Triangle will be home to West Seattle's first Bus Rapid Ride network. West Seattle will be served by the C-Line.
The event is also an opportunity to find out how the City of Seattle is creating a more pedestrian friendly future.
Senior Planner, Susan McLain from Department of Planning and Development will be on hand to answer your questions.
The Walk & Talk will follow with an evening deck reception overlooking the Puget Sound at a local sustainable urban farm in West Seattle.
