Not guilty plea in tow truck driver death
A woman accused of running down a tow truck driver has pleaded not guilty in Seattle to vehicular homicide and hit-and-run charges. Shavelle M. Lewis, 20, is being held on $150,000 bail. Investigators say her car veered across all southbound lanes of I-5 on Sept. 24 and killed William A. Padilla of Burien.
Padilla was kneeling down at the front of a disabled car when he was hit. He died at the scene. Lewis left the scene but was found minutes later at the bottom of the Michigan Street off-ramp standing outside of the vehicle. She appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Prosecutors say Lewis has a lengthy criminal record that includes misdemeanor convictions for prostitution, marijuana possession and a gross-misdemeanor conviction for fourth-degree assault. She has had 14 warrants out for her arrest since 2003.
Cars plastered with porn
A convicted sex offender was arrested after authorities say he plastered pornographic pictures on parked cars at Burien City Hall in August and September. Noah Nelson, 31, was caught on a security camera driving up to cars on a scooter and leaving porn on cars parked in the city parking garage. Police distributed Nelson's photo to local police agencies and a Department of Corrections officer recognized the man as being on probation. When police searched the suspect's home they found pornographic DVD's and printouts similar to the pictures left in the garage. He was charged with possessing depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and cyberstalking. Authorities say he sent a pornographic picture to an acquaintance over Facebook. He is being held at the King County Jail on $100,00 bail.
Hot pants
Police responded to a call for medical assistance in the 12000 block of Ambaum Blvd. A man accidentally set off a bottle rocket firework in his pants. He was transported to Harborview by ambulance to be treated for superficial burns on his groin, face and hand. No other injuries were reported.
Vandalism down 1st Ave.
Multiple 9-1-1 calls were made to report a series of vandalism. A subject was seen walking down 1st Avenue South kicking over street signs and electrical boxes. Police responded and arrested the subject. While searching the subject marijuana paraphernalia was found.
Threats with a gun
A woman was walking near the Burien Transit Center at 3 a.m. when she dropped a pack of cigarettes. A man allegedly came up and grabbed the pack. When she confronted him about returning the cigarettes, he threatened to shoot her with a gun. The suspect was identified but no arrest had been made at that time.
