A plethora of points and penalties added up to a wild 43-31 win for Kennedy Catholic over Lindbergh on Friday, Oct. 15.
The victory on a cold and windy night at Highline Stadium gave the Lancers the inside track to the Seamount League title as they improved to 5-0 in Seamount League play while dropping the second place
Eagles to 3-1. Hazen is next at 3-2 and Foster is fourth at 2-2.
Kennedy visits Highline for a 7 p.m. game this Thursday before finishing off with an "Open" date and a forfeit win over undermanned Tyee.
Aside from being high-scoring, the game was also slowed down by eight penalties against each team, with Lindbergh being flagged for 68 total yards and the Lancers for 66.
Lindbergh put itself on the scoreboard first, as Diondre Toms snagged a 24-yard touchdown pass from Matt Stuart. The kick for the extra point failed to leave the lead at 6-0 with 8:00 left in the first quarter.
Kennedy answered on its first play from scrimmage.
Darian Brooks hoofed out a 68-yard pass from Jason Thompson as Kennedy answered with a touchdown of its own. Nick Armitage kicked the extra point as the Lancers slipped past the Eagles, 7-6, at the 7:42 mark.
But Lindbergh answered on the ensuing kickoff as Diondre Toms returned it 81 yards for a touchdown. Derrick Holt's PAT kick made it 13-7 Lindbergh at 7:25 to go.
That lead was also short-lived, however.
L.J. Jennings scored three-straight touchdown to start off the second quarter for the Lancers. Jennings struck on two 1-yard runs with the third coming on a 24-yard jaunt. Armitage made two of his three kick attempts with the olther blocked, putting the margin at 27-13.
The Lancers' Ian Lunsford then blocked a Lindbergh punt that the Eagles recovered in their own end zone for two points on a safety that made it 29-13 with 2:21 left in the second quarter.
Lindbergh was then forced to kick the ball away, and Darian Brooks burned the artificial turf for an 83-yard Kennedy Catholic touchdown. Armitage made the kick after and Kennedy was suddenly up, 36-13, with 2:09 to play before halftime.
That was still enough time left for the Eagles to score another touchdown with 33 seconds left in the second quarter.
Bakari Davis scored the touchdown on a 1-yard run and the kick failed to keep the margin at 36-19.
Davis opened the third quarter the same way, punching in a 1-yard touchdown run at the 9:22 mark. Holt's kicked cut the Kennedy lead to 36-26.
Lindbergh hung dangerously close until Jennings plowed in for JFK on a 1-yard run with 2:01 to go in the third quarter. Armitage made the kick for a 43-26 game.
The Eagles closed the gap back, but it was with only 5:52 remaining.
Toms snagged a 10-yard touchdown pass from Stuart to make it 43-32. Holt's kick was blocked to keep the Lancers up by that margin, and they held the margin there the rest of the way.
Jennings led the Lancers by gaining 102 net yards on 26 carries and scoring four touchdowns.
Thompson passed nine times and completed five for 135 yards and one touchdown.
Brooks emerged as Thompson's favorite receiver of the game, catching two passes for 81yards and one touchdown.
