Police Blotter Week of 10-25-10
Mon, 10/25/2010
A man called police from a payphone to report he had been robbed at gunpoint on 14th Ave s.w. Officers arrived at the scene and the caller, who appeared “extremely intoxicated,” stumbled over to their squad car. He stated the while riding Metro Bus #132 he was attacked by a 5’10” black male weighing in at 200 pounds and sporting a black coat and blue jeans. As the story went, the caller saw the suspect push a female and her two children on the bus, so he stepped in to save the day. He said the suspect punched him in his chest and leg and then stole $100 in “$80 bills” from his wallet. Officers checked his wallet, which still had cash inside. Next, the story changed a bit and the suspect attacked him on the sidewalk (instead of the bus), then fled in a black Cadillac. There was never any mention of a gun. Police contacted the driver of Metro Bus #132 and he/she said there was no disturbance on the bus.
A King County Deputy was flagged down at the intersection of 18th Ave s.w. and s.w. Roxbury by a man who claimed he had just hit his nephew over the head with a metal pipe for stealing $35,000 and some jewelry from him … a month ago. As it normally goes, there were two different sides to the story:
Story #1 (from Uncle, the metal pipe hitter, paraphrased): This guy who stole all that money and jewelry from me a month ago while doing work on my house came over tonight unannounced. Fearing for my safety, I hid behind the front door and after the thief entered I cracked him in the head with the pipe and chased him towards s.w. Roxbury. That was when I saw the deputy and flagged him down.
Story #2 (from Nephew, the metal pipe hittee, paraphrased): I got a call from my Uncle asking me to come over and pick up some tools I had left as his house. When I arrived all the lights were out and my Uncle opened the front door and told me to step inside. I stepped into his house and got hit several times with a “stick.” I asked, “Uncle, why are you doing this?” to which he replied, “Why did you steal from me?” I got to my feet and ran away.
The nephew was taken to Highline Medical for additional treatment for his head injury and was not charged with any crimes. Officers went to the uncle’s house and found blood on the front porch and a metal pipe sitting on a table. He was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.
Seattle firefighters were busy putting out a structural fire at a home on 17th s.w. last week when they noticed two small marijuana plants growing in the back yard. An SPD officer came to the house to speak with the homeowner, who was on his back porch. Before the homeowner would speak to police, he insisted that they bring him his Seattle Firefighters’ replica helmet so he could keep the sun out of his eyes. The responding officer noted the homeowner “appeared to have mental issues” and asked him if he felt like hurting himself or others – the answer was “No.” Based on the report, no charges were filed.
