Witnesses sought to fatal accident
Investigators are seeking witnesses to an accident in which Adam Knapp, 30, of Federal Way died Oct. 18 after being struck by four vehicles, including an ambulance.
State Route 509 was closed for a time in both directions at South 128th Street about 11 p.m. on Oct. 18.
According to police reports, a Subaru was going the wrong way on SR 509 when it hit a black Ford Explorer head-on and also struck an Acura.
The Subaru driver fled on foot from the scene and was hit by four cars and the ambulance. The man died at the scene.
The Washington State Patrol said the medics in the TriMed ambulance had seen the driver of the Subaru turn around a drive south in the northbound lanes. Shortly after the ambulance struck the man when he fled the scene.
Five other people in struck vehicles were taken to Harborview Medical Center with injuries ranging from not serious to critical.

Hate crime charged
Jennifer Leigh Jennings of Burien has been charged by the King County Prosecutor with malicious harassment for verbally and physically attacking two women on Oct. 16 at a Tukwila service station.
Two women, who are American citizens of Somali descent, said Jennings verbally harassed them as they were attempting to pump gas at an ARCO AM/PM station on Tukwila International Boulevard. They said Jennings also slammed a car door on one of the women and pulled off her headscarf. Jennings also allegedly pushed the other woman.
Level 3 sex-offender release
Samuel C. Rutherford III was convicted of first-degree rape and attempted first-degree rape in 1996. He has registered with the King County Sheriff. Rutherford served 7 1/2 years in prison and is currently under DOC supervision. The registered address is in the 1000 block of South 202nd St. He has served his sentence and is not wanted by the police.
DUI driver threw knife at deputy in hospital
Deputies were called to an accident in the 17000 block of International Boulevard South. The driver had visible injuries and medics were called. He told deputies that he picked up an unknown person on the side of the road and had a knife pulled on him.
Witnesses did not see anyone in the car with him. The man smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking while driving the vehicle. He had an active DUI warrant, public disturbance warrant and his license was suspended for refusing a breath test.
While at the hospital the man was yelling profanities at the hospital staff and officer and being very uncooperative.
Then he pulled out a pocketknife with a 3-inch blade and threw it directly at the officer. The officer was able to move aside to avoid injury. The man was handcuffed to the hospital bed. He initially refused a blood test for drugs/alcohol but later volunteered a blood sample.
After being treated for his injuries he was booked into King County Jail for investigation of second-degree assault and his warrants.
Toy gun used in robbery
A man was inside his vehicle sleeping on the 11000 block of 8th Avenue Southwest. Two men approached the car and woke up the occupant. One of the men pulled out a toy gun and pointed it at victim pretending it was real. The other suspect stripped the car and they took the parts to be sold.
Police responded and were able to find the suspects and arrest them. The victim did not report any injuries.
Suspicious car near high theft area
An officer was patrolling South 166th St and 37th Avenue South after being informed about a history of recent thefts at a nearby construction site. He observed a vehicle parked in the middle of the road for no apparent reason. It was not in front of a house or near an intersection. Two males in the car appeared to be looking at the construction site. The car pulled into a driveway after seeing the police car.
A traffic stop was performed and three men were in the car. One passenger was wearing an ankle-monitoring bracelet used to monitor criminals on house arrest, the other passenger had a felony DOC escape warrant for Robbery 2. Both passengers were arrested and booked into King County Jail. The driver's name was clear and he had a good driving record, he was released with a warning.
Man passed out in hotel lobby
Police were dispatched to a hotel in the 18000 block of International Boulevard South for a report of a male passed out in the hotel's lobby. Upon arrival, the officer attempted to wake the man but he was unresponsive and could only moan. Hotel security said a taxi dropped the man off and he asked for a room number of a person that was not staying at the hotel. The man was extremely intoxicated and was not able to care for himself. Medics were called and the man was sent to a local hospital to detox.
