Ballard High School junior Alex Bowns took third place overall at the Northwest District Championships Oct. 30 and will represent the Beavers at the 4A State Championships.
The district championships featured 16 teams as well as individual competitors from both KingCo and Wesco. The top five teams and top 25 individuals moved on to the state championships.
The Ballard boys cross country team took seventh place, missing out on a trip to the state championships by 16 points. But, Bowns' time of 16:16 make him the only Ballard runner moving on to the next race.
The Ballard girls team placed 16th. Senior Natalie White was the top finisher for the girls, placing 55th in a time of 20:57.

The 4A State Championships take place at 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
