Police Blotter Week of 11-8-10

A woman returned home from work to find her living room window open. She entered the house and noticed blood on the floor. The blood trail led her to the kitchen and then to the fridge to discover that the burglar had stolen five pounds of beef. Officers were unable to find usable prints at the scene and there is no suspect in the case.
A house burglary on s.w. Grayson St. netted a burglar three shotguns, two rifles and an AK47 that had 40 rounds in the case with it. The victim had been out of town for several days and his neighbor noticed that newspapers were piling up at his door. The neighbor went to his house to make sure everything was OK and realized a door to the garage was open. He gathered the newspapers and called the victim to let him know it looked like someone had gotten into the house.
*This one leads to a good crime prevention reminder. If you are out of town and receive a daily newspaper, find someone who can pick the papers on a daily basis or stop delivery service for the time you are gone. Burglars look for these types of tell-tale signs of an empty house as they cruise neighborhoods.
Adding insult to injury, a burglar broke into a house that was empty for remodeling work and not only ransacked the place, but decided to pour laundry soap and Pine Sol on the floor near the laundry room and into the victim’s jewelry box. A neighbor said she heard noises on the victim’s property but did not call 911. Although no suspect was identified, a pair of inside-out gloves was found and submitted to evidence for latent print examination.
Across the Duwamish, officers responded to an armed robbery call on 1st Ave s. last week. The victim was driving northbound on 1st Ave s. when the two suspects flagged him down and approached the vehicle. One of the suspects said, “I’m going to rob you,” and reached into the passenger side window. Meanwhile, his accomplice threw a propane tank at the vehicle, once towards the back window and once towards the driver’s side door. The victim had pepper spray handy and sprayed the man reaching into the vehicle, thwarting the robbery. Police were able to find the suspects, “a short distance away,” and took them to the South Precinct on suspicion of attempted robbery.
A man claimed he was assaulted by three black males on Delridge Way s.w. around 2 a.m. last Tuesday, telling responding officers that they attacked him at a bus stop while he waited to go to work. Officers said the victim, who had multiple cuts and swelling to his head, was highly intoxicated and getting information from him was difficult. He told police the suspects attacked him for no reason and stole $20 and a cell phone from him before leaving the scene in an older green Chrysler eastbound on the West Seattle Bridge. One of the victim’s friends said he saw the attack but declined to provide a written statement, telling police he would, “handle it.” Neither the victim nor his friend could provide police with a description beyond, “three black males.” Police investigated the bus stop where the attack allegedly took place and found no blood or signs of a disturbance.
