Silas Fox, D.O., 89, passed away Oct. 7, 2006, in Federal Way. He was born in Banner Elk, N.C., on July 12, 1917.
His wife of 64 years, Lillian; his son, Fred Fox and wife Susie of St. Helena, Calif.; his daughter, Beverly and husband Michael Hasting of Auburn; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive him.
He was a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Silas and Lillian met in nurses training in Fletcher, N.C. Silas graduated from the Florida Hospital School of Nursing. Silas served in the Navy in World War II and was a hospital corpsman in Okinawa on D-Day.
He drove taxicab in Washington, D.C., for six years before going on to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor. He graduated from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his internship in Muskegon, Mich.
Silas began the practice of medicine in Oregon in 1959 and continued the practice of medicine in the Myrtle Creek area through 1983. His patients came from hundreds of miles around.
Following retirement in 1983, Silas volunteered in many church mission building projects, serving in whatever capacity was needed, roofing, painting, remodeling, etc.
A memorial service is to be held on Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. in the Myrtle Creek, Ore., Seventh-day Adventist Church. Arrangements by Yahn and Son Funeral Home, Auburn.
