Marian S. Hart

Marian S. Hart, 92, died peacefully in Leavenworth, Wash., at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Peter Fallert, on Sept. 30, 2006.

During her time with Nancy and Peter, she enjoyed sitting out on their deck listening to the birds and looking out over the meadow. Marian enjoyed the family pets, which included her beloved Molly and Tabby, who would often have the antics of a cat to watch or a dog close by to pet.

Betsy Steele, Marian's caregiver while in Leavenworth, was a blessing to all of us. She read "Miss Read" to Marian, engaged her in conversation, brought tidbits to tempt her appetite, and made her feel special.

Thank you to all the people of the Central Washington Home Care and Hospice. We especially thank PJ, Terry, Ginny and Kim.

Marian was born on August 30, 1914, in Seattle, Wash., to Robert and Mary Anne Stewart. She was the oldest of four children. She graduated from Everett High School, attended Seattle Pacific University and the University of Washington, and received a Degree in Education and a lifetime teaching certificate. During her teaching career, Marian taught in several elementary schools in the Highline School District and was an elementary librarian in the Federal Way School District. While with the Highline School District, Marian was "Teacher of the Year" two times. Marian taught for 32 years. After retiring in 1974, she and Bob moved to Olympia.

While in Olympia, Marian was very active in a number of organizations. These included the British Friends, the Genealogy Society, the Doll Club, the Miniature Club, Concern for Animals and others. She was very interested in history and served for a number of years as a volunteer at the state capitol building in Olympia.

Marian and Bob enjoyed traveling and attending special events of their grandchildren. Marian collected and furnished dollhouses, put together family histories, and restored antique quilts. She had a special interest in her dear family on the Isle of Man and always stayed in contact with them. Marian was considered the "family historian" by all and she was one of the last great letter writers of our time.

Robert E. Hart, her loving husband of 52 years, her sister Elizabeth (Stewart) Mulligan, and her brother Robert Stewart preceded Marian in death.

She is survived by her sister, Catharine (Stewart) White; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Janet Hart; her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Peter Fallert; three grandchildren, Brian Bradley-Hart (Julie), Jess Stewart Maize (Jessica), and Jina Jansson; three great-grandchildren, Beck, Ethan and Zoe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
