Nov. 4, 1916-Nov. 3, 2006
After a courageous battle with cancer, or dad passed away one day before his 90th birthday.
Dad was born and raised in LaCrosse, Wash., and graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1934. After high school, he worked in the Ford garage there as an auto mechanic.
In 1938, he was hired by Northwest Airlines and began his career as an aircraft mechanic in Spokane. During World War II, he was transferred to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where he helped support the airline's military flights to the Aleutian Islands. He spent the majority of his 41-year career with Northwest as a crew chief mechanic. For several years prior to his retirement in 1979, he was an IAM union representative and traveled many thousands of miles to attend union meetings where he represented the Seattle-based Equipment Servicemen and aircraft mechanics.
During his 55-year residency in the Burien area, dad was a member of the Burien Elks Lodge and had been an active volunteer for the Burien Senior Center for more than 13 years. He had attended Lake Burien Presbyterian Church for the last few years.
Dad married our mother, Barbara Jean Bell, of Hooper, Wash., on July 3, 1939. At the time of her death in June of 1993, they had been married nearly 54 years.
Dad is survived by his three children, Ed, Linda and Patty and each of their spouses, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Until we are united in eternity, we will love and miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held at Lake Burien Presbyterian Church, 15003 14th Ave. S.W., Burien, on Monday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m.
Remembrances may be made to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, P.O. Box 19024, M/S J5-200, Seattle, WA 98104.
