Jeanne R. Wilkerson died Nov. 4, 2006, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
She was born July 6, 1920, in St. Mary's, Idaho, to Fredrick and Ruth Rethemeyer. Jeanne married H. Paul Wilkerson, a heavy equipment engineer, in 1943. After his return from World War II, the couple made their home in Seattle, where they raised three daughters.
Mrs. Wilkerson was a homemaker who filled her days with PTA, sewing clothes for her daughters, and charitable and community work. She devoted many hours to the Highline Blood Bank, the American Cancer Society, and the McMicken Heights Community Club. For 30 years she managed a horse pasture where her daughters and other neighborhood children could keep their horses.
In her later life, Mrs. Wilkerson sat on the SeaTac Planning Commission and played the fiddle with the Old Time Fiddlers at senior centers in the Burien and Renton areas.
Preceded in death by her husband, Mrs. Wilkerson is survived by her daughters Paula (Charles Hay) of Gainesville, Fla., Ruth of Monroe, and Joan (Scott Swanson) of Juneau, Alaska, and six grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the McMicken Heights Community Club, 3730 S. 166th St., SeaTac.
Memorials may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
